Behind the Lens: What Inspires Me?

“Working hard for something we don’t care about is called stress; working hard for something we love is called passion” Simon Sinek

Some people enjoy snowy mountains while others prefer sandy beaches. Some portrait photographers are drawn towards sparkling weddings whereas others take pleasure in capturing sleeping newborn. These unique preferences allow each photographer to transition from merely another person behind a lens into an artist that momentarily captures a client’s persona. They are able to create a tiny glimpse into another’s soul.

My greatest connections, and therefore passions, stem from life transitions rather than epic moments: the buildings roman of an adolescent, couples embarking on a new life together, the growth of a mother, the connection between mother and child. These particular evolutions are typically a process that is bound together by physical and emotional growth, thus tend to be cornerstones in one’s personality evolution. This allows for the possibility of great images because it correlates to immense change. A blossoming.

High school Seniors emanate confidence and determination; they are preparing to leave life as they know it behind, with only their imagination as their boundaries for their next chapter in life. This is a transition from child to young adult characterized by definitive interests and concrete ideas of self, regardless of how shy or outgoing they may be. There is an underlying comfort upon the completion of their childhood and their new independence visibly radiates from within.

Couples who have decided to embark on their life journey together are as passionate about one another as they are life itself. Their commitment to their relationship solidifies their bond and simultaneously creates new opportunities. They thrive with their partner, not only having a reflection of one self but also benefiting from the balance the other person brings to their dynamic. The symbiotic relationship allows for having a built in best friend throughout life’s adventures.

Maternity has long been a time recognized as a blossoming process, a woman is literally growing into a mother as the child within her grows. It is fundamental to life itself, but it hasn’t always been a time respected for its beauty. The transition from self to motherhood is more than the outwardly recognizable physical; there is tremendous need for introspection and reflection, regardless of if this is a first baby or an experienced matriarch. Pregnancy should be a celebration of a miracle, and embracement of the bump, the literal connection between two beings before it is all to easily forgotten. The natural glow of a pregnant woman is undeniably breathtaking.

Nursing is a bond between mother and child that extends beyond mere nutrition. It allows for an unmatchable subconscious connection between baby and mother with relaxation and health benefits to both. Regardless of duration, one day, one week, one month, or one year and beyond, it is cause for celebration. The initial bonding period can often be perplexing; capturing the precious moments between mother and baby helps memorialize their connection and instill confidence in the mother. There should be no time or place where a mother doubts her ability to care for her child.

With the help of my lens, my aim is to be a vessel to capture your distinctive story through natural moments and connections. This is your life, your tale, what is going to be the next adventure?
